Cornerstone Ceremony – Haierweg Freiburg
On 19 May 2026, the UNMÜSSIG Group celebrated the inaugural placement of the corner stone, including the time capsule, for the “Haierweg” residential development project in Freiburg Haid. The ceremony took place together with Mayor Meder, investors, business partners and project stakeholders. With this milestone event, the UNMÜSSIG Group officially launched its large scale initiative for subsidised rental housing, not only in Freiburg, but throughout the region.
The family owned company is currently planning and developing more than 1,200 subsidised residential units across Baden Württemberg, including more than 800 apartments in Freiburg alone. The apartments are designed to be accessible and barrier free wherever possible and will be offered at rents approximately 40% below the local comparative market rate. In order to reduce ancillary costs for residents, all projects are being developed as energy efficient buildings in accordance with the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard and will additionally receive the “Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings QNG Plus”.
For 80 years, the family owned company has consistently pursued its long standing philosophy of creating sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions in residential construction and project development with creativity and passion.
“For many years we have been aware of our ecological and social responsibility and implement our standards in accordance with the ESG criteria applied across Europe. Sustainability in residential construction and project development is not a trend for us, it is an integral part of our corporate philosophy, creating reliability and trust,” said Managing Director Hans Peter Unmüßig.
The development comprises 64 subsidised, accessible apartments with an underground parking garage. The architectural concept includes clinker brick facades and integrated facade greening. The buildings are planned with a sustainable energy supply based on heat pumps and photovoltaic systems. Completion and handover of the apartments are scheduled for the end of 2027.
Construction of the project is being carried out by weisenburger bau GmbH from Karlsruhe, which is also partnering with the UNMÜSSIG Group on subsidised housing developments in other cities. “We are proud and grateful to contribute to the UNMÜSSIG Group’s housing initiative,” said Managing Director Matthias Ryzlewicz.
