New Police Headquarters for Rhineland-Palatinate: UNMÜSSIG to Revitalise Listed Building at Münsterplatz in Mainz
Unternehmensgruppe UNMÜSSIG
The State of Rhineland-Palatinate is set to receive a comprehensively modernised and future-ready police headquarters in a central location in the state capital. At Münsterplatz in Mainz, the historic listed building dating from 1930 will undergo extensive refurbishment and modernisation, complemented by a new-build structure that will complete the ensemble as a high-performance security facility for the 21st century.
The Freiburg-based UNMÜSSIG Group is responsible for the realisation of this demanding project. The company is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and can look back on decades of successful experience in the development of high-quality real estate. With this experience and expertise, UNMÜSSIG is ideally positioned to successfully deliver a project of this complexity, combining the sensitive refurbishment of a listed building with a contemporary and sustainable new-build development. As a trusted partner to the public sector, the family-owned company also has many years of experience working with public-sector clients and delivering sophisticated projects for the public sector. In Rhineland-Palatinate in particular, the UNMÜSSIG Group is currently developing two town hall buildings in close cooperation with the respective municipalities and is seeking to pursue further projects with public-sector partners in the future.
The purchaser of the property is Landesbetrieb Liegenschafts- und Baubetreuung (LBB), the central service provider for the State of Rhineland-Palatinate responsible for the management and development of public real estate. By acquiring the property at Münsterplatz, LBB is securing a strategically important location for the long-term accommodation of the police headquarters.
Refurbishment of the Listed Building and New-Build Extension
The building at Münsterplatz was constructed in 1930 and has shaped Mainz’s cityscape for almost a century. As part of the project, the historic building will be carefully yet comprehensively refurbished and renovated to meet modern requirements for sustainability, energy efficiency, digitalisation and accessibility. A new-build structure will provide additional state-of-the-art space and complement the existing architecture while integrating seamlessly into the surrounding urban fabric.
The aim is to create a contemporary and functional working environment for employees of the Rhineland-Palatinate police force, with the quality and architectural and urban design standards that such a prominent inner-city location in Mainz deserves.
The next planning and construction phases will be further developed over the coming months. Regular updates on the progress of the project will be provided.
