The project
As a modern residential and service-oriented ensemble with excellent connectivity to Freiburg’s city centre, the 28,700 m² quarter has established itself as a new destination in the highly sought-after and dynamically growing western part of Freiburg. In addition to 150 contemporary urban apartments, 39 assisted-living units and 22 care-focused shared living units, the mixed-use retail and gastronomy concept offers 10,000 m² of space accommodating a supermarket, drugstore, fitness facilities and regional restaurants – covering all functions expected of a modern district centre.
The central square becomes a place of encounter for all generations, characterised by landscaped green areas that offer a high quality of stay.
A forward-looking neighbourhood development
In Freiburg’s west, Zentrum Landwasser is emerging as an urban ensemble that meaningfully connects living, working and daily amenities. Across roughly 30,000 m², the project brings together 150 rental apartments, 21 commercial units and offerings for health, care, gastronomy and local supply. Complemented by contemporary architecture, landscaped courtyards and social infrastructure, a place with a clear attitude is created: intergenerational, functionally considered, architecturally precise. As a “small town within the city”, the centre blends everyday life with quality of living – open to many needs, sensitive to its context.
ESG concept with KfW-55 EE standard
Zentrum Landwasser also meets the ecological requirements of contemporary urban development: certified as a KfW-55-EE energy-efficient building, the project is shaped by renewable energy, ecological construction methods and a consistent ESG approach. Energy is supplied via the local energy centre using pellets, biogas and natural gas. Green roofs, permeable surfaces and targeted biodiversity measures visibly improve the microclimate. In this way, a future-oriented neighbourhood is created – one in which responsibility is not displayed but structurally embedded.
